Darius Carey is excited to be joining the Lookout Mountain Club as the director of food and beverage services. Darius is a Chattanooga native and spent a lot of his childhood on his grandparents’ farm in Jessup, Ga. There, he learned the importance of hard work and the satisfaction of growing your own food, as well as the benefits of farm-to-table cuisine.
He started working in his father’s bakery when he was 11 and continued through high school, saying this job helped with his cooking skills and increased his interest in the culinary arts. In 2011, he started work as a busboy at the Blue Water Grille, and, with the help of his friend and “coach” Fletcher Thompson, worked his way up to supervisor. In 2015, he worked alongside Fletcher as the house manager for Stir. He was also the bar manager at Stir, which increased his love for creating cocktails that are new and exciting.
Darius started working at the club at the end of August and is so excited about revamping the beverage menu at the bar. He wants to start from the ground up and introduce some new beers and wines. He is also going to be making new specialty cocktails, which is one of his passions.
Under his leadership, LMC will offer a virtual store to purchase beer and wine to go. You can special order something if it’s not in stock, and if you can find the beer or wine at a cheaper price, LMC will gladly match it.
Darius also would like any suggestions you have for a drink if it is not on the menu. A new bartender, Manuel, also has a real passion for fresh and different cocktails. He possesses a vast knowledge in the alcohol industry and has worked previously at the Flying Squirrel and Alleia, and he is looking forward to getting to know the members.
In any free time, Darius, a sports car fanatic, enjoys amateur car racing. He also enjoys skeet shooting, but his idea of a perfect day would be good food and good drink with good friends! Cheers and welcome, Darius!
