On April 21, 2021, our Lookout Mountain world expanded with the much-anticipated addition of Canopy on the Tennessee side of the mountain. Friends and neighbors flocked to enjoy coffee and delectable pastries within walking distance from home. As the months passed, Canopy’s popularity continued to grow. Recently, on October 13, 2021, Canopy opened its wine bar, which serves Wednesday through Saturday evenings beginnig at 5 p.m.
Canopy shares ownership between Caralisa Montgomery, Hank Currin, and Randy McGehee. Randy is a pilot, entrepreneur, and California resident who has been instrumental in providing wine knowledge and contacts for the wine bar at Canopy. Hank serves as a full time youth pastor at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, and he delights in bringing the community in to enjoy Canopy. He has been perfecting his latte art, as well. With a business background, Caralisa manages the restaurant behind the scenes, but is known to help behind the bar when necessary.
Baristas Hannah Greer and Austin Moore have served at Canopy since its inception and remain the anchors of the daytime coffee service. Caralisa’s teenage daughter, Hannah Montgomery, began training as soon as Canopy opened, and she loves to serve when her busy schedule allows. The extremely talented Ann Williamson of Lookout Mountain Granola is now the food manager. Anyone who has ever eaten a dish prepared by Ann knows that she is very gifted. Ann has crafted a daytime and evening menu to complement the varied quality drink offerings. In order to keep the menu fresh, Ann delights in new creations. In the evenings, Paxton Haggerty is the head of service. Other baristas and bartenders include Hannah Thome, Charlie Hooks and Ben Beatty.
Caralisa’s husband, Ralph Montgomery, was instrumental in the beer and wine selection. Caralisa laughed, “Ralph sacrificed his time to partake in many tastings to curate the perfect selection!”
Ralph worked with local distributors to offer a unique and carefully curated wine selection. Beer offerings include local and state brewers along with some other favorites. To keep patrons’ palates’ pleased, new options will be rotated on the menu.
Additionally, the evening service offers bar bites. Ann regularly creates lemon beet hummus, Canopy pub cheese, caramelized onion dip, bacon wrapped dates and roasted pecans. Local Lookout Mountaineers have enjoyed this new option for meeting with friends in the evenings. Canopy is the perfect place for an after-dinner glass of wine, ladies’ night, or date night. Canopy’s coffee bar is open Monday through Friday at 7 a.m. On Saturdays, it opens at 8am. Canopy is also available for private events. Please contact Caralisa at [email protected] with any inquiries.
In closing, Caralisa said, “We have enjoyed serving the community these last few months and are looking forward to sharing a glass of wine in the months to come!”
