If you’re familiar with my Oh For A Book column, you know I love books. I also love food. I enjoy both cooking and eating. However, because most weeks I work seven days, I also enjoy not having to plan and prepare a meal every evening.
Lookout Mountain is fortunate to have wonderful options for food pickup in Cafe on the Corner and The Mountain Market. Did you know that another option has been added on Monday evenings? On March 15, Grandview introduced its Family Meal Deal. Doug Chapin, director of specialty operations of See Rock City Inc., had the idea of offering this as another way to serve our community.
As of this writing, the Family Meal Deal has been available for three weeks, and I am not ashamed to tell you that I have taken advantage of it all three weeks. The March 15th meal was bacon wrapped chicken breast with balsamic fig sauce, roasted squash, herb roasted potatoes and dinner rolls. There was also the option to purchase dessert a la carte - a whole pecan pie, a whole peanut butter pie, or chocolate chip cookies. If you’re thinking that it sounds delicious but it’s probably expensive, the cost for the meal for two was $28. I promise, if I had stopped at a grocery store on my way home, I would have spent more than that, and it would not have been nearly as delicious, nor as beautifully prepared by Grandview’s chef, Sarah Benoit.
The second week’s menu was salmon with dill sauce served on a bed of wild rice, asparagus, a roasted vegetable medley and dinner rolls. Exquisite! My husband is still talking about how good the salmon was. I got the chocolate chip cookies, but I could have gotten a whole lemon cheesecake. And, with very limited cleanup, we enjoyed an after dinner walk in beautiful weather!
This week we had boneless pork chop with bourbon barbecue sauce on the side, smoked Gouda mac and cheese, Southern-style green beans and homemade corn muffins. Yes, I did order dessert: homemade banana pudding for two! The meal smelled so good that just taking it out of the bag, I almost didn’t wait for my husband to get home. It was all delicious, and, honestly, there was enough food that we probably should have split one meal and had the other the next night.
I’m looking forward to lots more of these wonderful dinners, including the upcoming family style penne chicken primavera with Alfredo sauce, mixed greens salad with herb vinaigrette dressing and garlic knots.
I’m happy to report that the response from the community has been overwhelming, with many Lookout Mountain residents expressing their appreciation to the Grandview staff for providing delicious meals for the whole family. Grandview plans to continue offering the Family Meal Deal for the foreseeable future, so I hope to see you at Grandview on a Monday real soon.
Orders can be placed by emailing: [email protected] or by phone at (706) 820-7920 before noon on Mondays. There are options for meals for two or for four. You will be emailed an online link to pay via credit/debit card. When you order, let them know what time you plan to pick up. Orders are available between 4 and 6 p.m. on Mondays. Also let them know what you’ll be driving, and they will bring it out to you. If you want to walk over to Grandview, let them know that. They conveniently share a menu for the next week in your order, but if it’s your first time ordering, just call to ask about the menu.
In case you’re not familiar, Grandview is the 1928 Tudor mansion located adjacent to Rock City. It became part of the See Rock City family of enterprises in June 1999, and is now a popular wedding and meeting facility, with amenities that include a one-of-a-kind view.
