About three years ago, Scott Judd from Chickamauga suffered a life-changing disability. Looking on the bright side, he decided to focus on his true passion, which is creating outdoor wood pieces and furniture. Turning his beloved hobby into a business, he opened The Wood Shop 30707, teaming up with his fiancé, Sunnie Tiffin, who is in charge of marketing. He has a workshop on their property and makes porch swings, birdhouses and other outside decorative pieces. He gets his wood from a local sawmill and primarily uses cedar.
I happened upon Scott and Sunnie when a Facebook Market Place post popped up with a picture of a small porch swing, which has been on my wish list for a long time. It was priced right, at $45, and the beautiful reddish cedar swing was definitely handmade. I messaged Sunnie, and she said for $10 more that they would deliver it to my door. Yes, please!
The quality of the swing is perfection - it was beautifully sanded and very sturdy and was pre-drilled for hanging so all I had to do was order the chain for less than $10 on Amazon. Sunnie and Scott could not have been nicer, and Scott was extremely knowledgeable in his craft.
Since it’s such a small world, Scott asked me if I had known Tommy Markham, adding that Tommy had hired him for one of his first jobs when he was a teenager. Scott helped Tommy clean out a warehouse for Tommy’s latest venture, a hardwood flooring company. He said that Tommy was the first person to ever give him a saw, and look where Scott is now!
Sunnie said they try to keep the prices reasonable, adding that a 4-foot to a 6-foot porch swing runs anywhere from $75- $125. A single birdhouse is $15, but Scott can make any size that you want, even those “condominium” style birdhouses. He takes custom orders and will try to make exactly what you want. Sunnie and Scott are really nice, down-to-earth people who have what’s best for their customer in mind. You can check them out on their Facebook page, The Wood Shop 30707, or you can call Sunnie at (706) 572-0570.
