Our wonderful postal family on Lookout has added more members. Dani Dawson and Jeff Shoop are our postal clerks, and many of us see them nearly every day. You may remember that clerk Bryan Hayes came in to take Steve Bailey’s place when he retired. Unfortunately, about four years ago, Bryan was in a car wreck and took a leave of absence.
About three years ago, Dani Dawson came in to fill his position on a part-time basis. Dani, who had worked in the clothing industry for several years, and her husband moved to Signal Mountain in 2014 when she was a stay-at-home mom with two children. She eventually applied for a part time position at the Signal Mountain Post Office and was hired by Amy Buffington, a former postmaster on Signal and now our postmaster on Lookout. Hired originally as holiday help, Dani eventually became a full-time employee.
When Amy left the Signal Mountain Post Office to come to Lookout, she was missed immensely as a friend, mentor, and boss. When Dani heard about the clerk position opening on Lookout, she applied and was accepted, taking Bryan’s place temporarily. When he retired, she became full time, and Jeff Shoop filled her the position she left on Signal. Jeff grew up in East Ridge, and before taking his job as a clerk, he worked for Red Food/Food City for 35 years
Jeff worked at the Signal Mountain Post Office for four years. When he heard about an available part-time position on Lookout where his friends and co-workers Dani and Amy were, he applied for the job. He and Dani both explained that Amy treats her employees as equals and doesn’t ask any of them to do something she wouldn’t do. In fact, she fills in everywhere!
The father of eight grown children, Jeff lives in North Chattanooga with his wife, and he is excited to be here. He laughs that when he arrived at the Lookout branch, Amy introduced him as the new permanent replacement because she was so thrilled to have him.
“I love getting to know everyone, and I enjoy the work and the people of Lookout and hope to be here for years to come,” Jeff said.
“Even though I live on Signal like Amy does, it is so worth the drive, and it is such a pleasure to come to work and to be a member of this incredible community and postal family,” Dani said.
Amy is thrilled with both of them, saying, “What a great addition they are to our Lookout family. Dani and Jeff are going to be a great team!”
