The annual 3 Sisters Music Festival will take place Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3 at Ross’s Landing in downtown Chattanooga. Started in 2007 by local businessman George Bright and his family, 3 Sisters Music Festival has become one of Chattanooga’s “banner events of the fall” season. This free, one-of-a-kind event features local, regional and national contemporary and traditional bluegrass performers.

Chattanooga’s The Dismembered Tennesseans will get the fiddles bowing and banjos ringing Friday evening at 6 p.m. Music will continue throughout the evening with The Railsplitters and Della Mae. Friday night’s headliner, Hot Rize, will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.

Music starts up again at noon on Saturday with the Hamilton County Ramblers. They’ll be followed by Bluetastic Fangrass, Lone Mountain Band, Berkley College of Music Fiddlers, Michael Cleveland, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen and Front Country.

This year’s festival headliner is The Travelin’ McCourys. They will take to the stage at 8:30 p.m on Saturday evening.

The Travelin’ McCourys are made up of Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Rob McCoury on banjo, Jason Carter on fiddle and Alan Bartram on bass. The McCoury name is easily recognizable to all bluegrass fans. Ronnie and Rob McCoury are the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury. The McCoury brothers, Carter, and Bartram have continued the work and lifelong dedication of Del McCoury by bringing the joy of bluegrass music to the lives of many.

Festival and performer merchandise will be available on site, as well as beer, food and non-alcoholic concessions. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets, however, no outside food or beverages are allowed.

Covenant College Presents "The Savannah Disputation"

Covenant College’s fall theater season will begin with Evan Smith’s “The Savannah Disputation,” a comedy about imperfect faith in an imperfect world.

Taking place in Savannah, Ga., this one-act play tells the story of two elderly, Catholic sisters and the day their life changes when a fundamentalist door-to-door evangelist steps into their home. Following the initial meeting is a comical and thought-provoking journey of self-discovery, petty revenge and meditation on the human condition that will leave the audience’s minds churning about what they believe themselves.

Directed by Department Head Camille Hallstrom, “The Savannah Disputation” will, she says, be “a wonderful show, full of delightful farce, but it also wrestles with the nature of truth, relationships and loneliness. Likely everyone on either side of its issues will get offended by something in the show, yet the play ultimately demonstrates compassion for its characters in their various struggles in this vale of tears.”

“The Savannah Disputation” previews in Sanderson Hall Auditorium on the Covenant College campus, previewing October 1 at 8 p.m., and performances run October 2, 3 and 9 at 8 p.m. and October 10 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets will be $5 for students, staff, and seniors, and $7 for adults. Preview tickets are $3 and $5. To reserve tickets, or for more information, call the box office at (706) 419-1051 or email boxoffice@covenant.edu.
