This month marks an important milestone for Lookout Mountain-based Body Fit Concepts, as the business celebrates 20 years in the personal training industry. Owned by Mark Douglas, the unassuming storefront on Scenic Highway has had a significant impact, both mentally and physically, on hundreds of Lookout residents. I’m one who is always looking for the “next best thing” – having tried classes with camo-clad, in-your-face drill sergeants (think “An Officer and a Gentleman”) to women-only, high-intensity interval training. However, the years of box-jumping and flipping tires have taken their toll, and when a friend recommended one-on-one training with Mark, I decided to give it a shot.
As soon as I stepped through the door of Body Fit Concepts, I knew I was in for a very different experience. Mark spent a significant amount of time discussing my history, priorities and expectations. His approach to fitness is not just about shedding pounds to squeeze back into a favorite pair of jeans (that was MY goal). Mark sees fitness as a means to boost your body, mind and spirit and ultimately live a more wholesome life.
Who knew that with Mark I was not only getting Hercules but a healthy dose of Aristotle with each training session? Needless to say, my previous “flash in the pan” approach to fitness has changed.
As Mark celebrates 20 years of success in the business, I celebrate the staying power of Body Fit Concepts in my life!If you are interested in learning more, contact Mark at (423) 314-3094 or stop by Body Fit Concepts at 816 Scenic Highway.
Mark’s Tips for Achieving a Healthier Life in 2019
1. Reset your mentality
to all things positive
We instinctively understand the concept of being unable to change the past, but our human connection with nostalgia wages a battle in our minds. Every time I’m stressed, anxious of overwhelmed, it’s because I’m spending too much time in the past and future. Let it go and live in the present.
2. Be self-aware – accept personal limitations while acknowledging the vast horizon of opportunity
Many of us have misdiagnosed limitations as a result of a lifetime of concessions. Fear is often the only hindrance between you and your goals.
3. Sunshine in, sunshine out
From your mind to your spirit, open the door to the healthy and sever the negative ties. Your mind is like a garden growing every day. However, without diligent maintenance and healthy decision-making, the weeds will grow tall.
4. Restraint and self-control are the earmarks of personal power and balance
History has proven that the conservative approach of living a life of self-restraint and virtue is unparalleled to achieving success.
5. Your body is craving exercise
Your body is in a constant state of atrophy, so movement is essential for good health. With 650 muscles, that is easier said than done. It’s essential to safely exercise these muscles with daily and weekly repetition to maintain a balance for your overall physical health.
