Celebrate Rock City's Beautiful Blooms

PictureRhododendrons are in full bloom right now at Rock City Gardens.
May flowers are in full bloom, and Rock City Gardens is preparing for the eighth annual Southern Blooms Festival on May 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This spring event honors Rock City's founding gardener, Frieda Utermoehlen Carter. Take a walk in her footsteps, talk with area master gardeners, enjoy fun activities for kids of all ages and savor delicious southern food.

New this year are fairy garden workshops, during which guests can learn the art of gardening and receive a fairy garden starter kit. Tickets are required in advance. Planting demonstrations and make-and-take activities for kids are also available.

Other festivities include meeting a Southern belle, with Southern belle makeover options for children. Enjoy live harp music by Ellen Shiraef, and take a guided historical walking tour through the gardens at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. Some of the flowers currently blooming along the Enchanted Trail are rhododendrons, native azaleas, mountain laurel and rose campion. Rock City is home to over 400 species of plants and flowers.

As Rock City continues its community partnerships with each special event, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank is a featured partner during Southern Blooms.

Get the full event schedule and purchase workshop tickets at www.seerockcity.com/southernblooms.

Also, on May 21st Rock City celebrates its 84th Founder's Day! Guests can try a special German chocolate fudge for 84 cents!

Just six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Rock City Gardens is an enchanted, 4,100-foot walking trail showcasing lush gardens, caves and soaring rock formations.
