Hunter Museum Has Free Admission Thursday

The Hunter Museum of American Art is starting the New Year off with a wonderful resolution: As of January 1, all children and youth 17 and under will be admitted free with accompanying adult.

Regarding the introduction of free admission for children and youth, Executive Director Virginia Anne Sharber said, “The Hunter presents such wonderful images and spaces to ignite the imaginations and wonder of our youngest community members. We want all families to discover the galleries as spaces for children of all ages and are therefore delighted to offer this new opportunity. Art has the power to open windows to the world, enhance cultural awareness, encourage communication and create a lifelong love of learning. We are eager to do what we can to make the arts available to children and their families in our community.”

Alongside this change, the Hunter will transition the day it admits adults for free to the museum’s permanent collection from the first Sunday to the first Thursday of every month from 4-7:30 p.m. On Throwback Thursdays, adults will be able to view the permanent collection for free, and the price to view the special exhibits will roll back to $5, a “throw back” to the price first charged for museum admission. This pricing marks a decrease from the First Sunday $10 admission price for special exhibitions. Again, youth will be admitted for free to all special exhibitions during Throwback Thursdays.

“We are grateful to our sponsor Easy Auto. They are helping us continue to host times each month when we can open our permanent collection to the community for free and make the arts accessible for everyone,” said Sharber.
