Rescues on the Runway

As spring approaches, so do many of our local nonprofits’ dinners, balls and galas. While you’re in search of the perfect gown or that one-of-a-kind bow tie, don’t forget to score your tickets to the Humane Educational Society’s 12th annual Rescues on the Runway gala. The event is billed as Chattanooga’s most unique runway show, but it’s so much more than that!

Rescues on the Runway will be held Saturday, March 16, at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Starting at 6 p.m., guests will be greeted by adoptable shelter pets donning bow ties and dapper donation vests. The evening will open with an expansive silent auction where guests can bid on an eclectic array of items while they sample hors d’oeuvres of herbed cheese and sun-dried tomato tartlets; fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil brochettes; vegetarian spring rolls and more. Guests will then enjoy a three-course meal of Mediterranean salad, chicken saltimbocca served with orzo primavera and seasonal vegetables (or a vegetarian option of butternut squash ravioli in sage butter with assorted grilled vegetables). Dessert will feature a decadent chocolate torte or a fresh strawberry and white chocolate mousse parfait, all leading up to the most exciting portion of the evening.

Chattanooga’s most adorable runway show, hosted by TV personality Brian Smith, Rescues on the Runway will feature touching stories of former shelter pets who have found their forever homes, as well as some great companions who are available for adoption.

“With the runway show, we are able to highlight and share with our supporters some of the special stories of animals HES has helped throughout the year,” said HES Executive Director Bob Citrullo. “Many of these animals have had a long road to recovery and a long road to a loving home. This is our opportunity to share the happy endings that our supporters have helped make possible.”

During the runway show, guests will have the opportunity to bid on live-auction items, from vacations to exclusive local dining experiences. New this year, Rescues on the Runway will host an after-party in an adjacent ballroom where guests can dance the night away after the show.

Each year, attendees at Rescues on the Runway make an incredible difference for shelter pets and help fund HES’s mission to provide a safe haven for homeless, abused and neglected animals in our community and advocate on their behalf.

“Without this event, the Humane Educational Society could not save the thousands of previously homeless animals in our care,” said Kay Baker, HES board secretary and Rescues on the Runway committee member since 2016. “Proceeds from Rescues on the Runway help provide a safe haven for homeless pets for as long as they need one, ensure life through heartworm and parvo treatments, in addition to mending broken bones and curing all of the various diseases that afflict animals that have suffered from inadequate care prior to coming into our shelter.

“Attending this event is a win-win,” Baker continued. “You enjoy great food, success stories, auction items and a live runway show - and Hamilton County animals live longer, stronger and healthier lives.”

Rescues on the Runway has sold out for the past five years, so organizers are encouraging guests to purchase their tickets early. Tickets and tables can be purchased at heschatt.org. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to help homeless pets in our community and “paw-ty” with the animals!
