Shuptrine is celebrating the culmination of years dedicated to capturing the Serpentine Chain, our Appalachian Mountains, culture, and people in his watercolor paintings with the launch of a fine art coffee table book titled, “I Come From A Place.”
Due to Alan’s friendship with best-selling author, avid hiker, and sought-after storyteller Jennifer Pharr Davis, it was an easy choice of who should provide the prose that would resonate with his paintings. Pharr Davis, an Asheville, N.C. resident, holds the female world record for fastest supported hike on the Appalachian Trail, claiming an average of 47 miles per day. Pharr Davis is a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, an Ambassador for the American Hiking Society and highly acclaimed public speaker from The Appalachian Mountains.
“I Come From A Place” is the beautiful result of their collaborative efforts. The book is filled with 152 pages containing images of Shuptrine’s realistic watercolors, accompanied by Pharr Davis’ commentary. This Limited First Edition is beautifully bound in mountain stone grey linen and silver gilt embossing on the cover and spine.
Alan recently wrapped up his successful two-year, four-museum solo exhibition, Alan Shuptrine: Appalachian Watercolors of the Serpentine Chain. Throughout the museum tour, he continued to paint and increased his body of work to nearly 100 watercolor paintings, each one highlighting the extraordinary land, people and traditions along the Appalachian Trail.
The book-signing and celebratory book launch event will be held on Thursday, September 12, at the Lookout Mountain Club and is open to the public. For this inaugural book-signing, both Shuptrine and Pharr Davis will be on hand from 5:30-7:30, with an artist and author toast at 6:30. A selection of Shuptrine’s work will be on display throughout the evening.
All are invited to come and enjoy a selection of Appalachian fare, a whiskey bar, and traditional mountain music while meeting both artist and author. Because this is a limited first printing of “I Come From A Place,” Shuptrine’s Gallery on Broad Street is accepting pre-orders for Limited Editions at www.alanshuptrine.com or contact the gallery at (423) 266-4453.
